      Local 1747 Active In Coat For Kids

      For the second time this school year, local firefighters will be donating new, American made coats to children who attend Highline Public Schools. On February 4, 2014, preschool students from throughout Highline Public Schools will come to Kent Fire Department RFA’s Station 46 (formerly the SeaTac Fire Department) to be fitted and receive their new coats.

      Congratulations to 46 years of IAFF Local 1747!

      In 1968, eighteen members from the Kent Fire Department decided they needed to unionize the workforce. It was just three years earlier that the Kent Fire Department hired its first paid employees. On January 22, the International Association of Fire Fighters chartered those brothers as Kent Firefighters, IAFF Local 1747.

      SeaTac Citizen Wanted for Kent Fire Department Advisory Committee

      On January 1, 2014, the City of SeaTac Fire Department began a contract for services with the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority. Because of this, the Kent Fire Department RFA’s Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) is seeking to add a member from the City of SeaTac area. The purpose of the CAC is to review, validate, and gather resident input on strategic deployment and planning documents for the RFA and work with the RFA staff to develop recommendations to the RFA Governance Board regarding planning documents for the RFA. The CAC may also provide additional input, feedback and guidance to the RFA staff and RFA Governance Board on issues critical to developing a strong relationship between the community and the RFA.

      The Peoria Firefighters' Local 50 annual charity golf outing will be August 21, 2014 with a shotgun start at 1:30 pm. The format is a 4 man scramble. Cost is $85.00 per player. Cost includes Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch, smoked chicken & rib buffet for dinner, open bar during reception, tee shirt, live DJ and tons of raffle items. Max of 144 players so register early.

      At seven years old, Isaiah Harris is slowly losing his eyesight.  Born with Congeital Glaucoma, he has already undergone twentyfour surgeries.  He is due for another surgery soon and his family must travel to Portland frequently for surgeries and check-ups.       Highrise fires call for a new approach

      Smoke begins to billow out of an apartment on the 16th floor of a highrise on Alderson Avenue in Coquitlam. The first alarms start to ring. Coquitlam fire crews make their way to the scene. The fire was started by a plumbing contractor and has spread to one unit. Most of the residents are in the lobby as crews arrive.

      McFarland elected Mayor of Murfreesboro Shane McFarland will trade his seat on the City Council for the mayor’s post after rolling to victory in Tuesday’s election. McFarland captured 5,315 votes, 68 percent, to City Councilman Ron Washington’s 2,474, 31.7 percent, in the mayoral race with 31 of 31 precincts counted and early voting totals in.
