      Since Nov. 28, your Local 1747 Firefighters, in conjunction with the Kent RFA and the Kent Firefighters Foundation, have been collecting unwrapped, new toys to help make Christmas special for local families in need. Yesterday, firefighters, their families and members of the public were able to deliver a semi-truck full of gifts for distribution throughout our community.

      Local 1747, the Kent Firefighters Foundation and the Kent Regional Fire Authority are proud to once again be kicking off our Toys for Joy campaign. Toys for Joy is an annual event where new, unwrapped toys are collected, sorted, wrapped and delivered to local food banks and outreach programs to be distributed to local families in our community for the holidays.

      A great tradition continued this morning as members of Local 1747 helped to deliver over 4,000 toys, along with stocking stuffers and stuffed animals, as part of Toys for Joy, a joint effort between the Kent RFA, Local 1747, the Kent Firefighters Foundation and our community.  The toys are delivered to close to 2,000 children who otherwise might not have such a merry Christmas.

      Gerald Dean Marlatt Posted on January 17, 2017 Gerald Dean Marlatt “Jerry”, passed away January 9, 2017 at his home in Emmett Kansas at the age of 72. Jerry was born January 28, 1944 in Topeka Kansas to Herbert Max Marlatt and Marguerite Jane (Spaeth) Crowe. At the time he was the largest baby ever delivered at Stormont-Vail hospital at 14lbs 7oz.

      On Friday, September 13th, two members of the East Hartford Fire Department Peer Support Team travelled to New York City at the invitation of the FDNY Counseling Services Unit (CSU). In addition to the scheduled training program, East Hartford and FDNY made a joint presentation to the Prince George’s County, Maryland Fire Department on how to implement a Peer Team program.

      January 15, 2017 – At 13:46 South Metro Firefighters were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 7300 block of South Yampa Street.  A neighbor dialed 911 and reported visible smoke coming from a nearby garage.  Battalion 32 upgraded the response to confirmed structure fire, prompting the dispatch of additional units.

      Cunningham Fire Rescue kicked off Fire Prevention Week with an open house at Station 62 16758 E. Smoky Hill Rd in Centennial on October 8th 2016. The community came out to tour the station, check out the apparatus, meet with firefighters and learn about fire safety. The department also provided child safety seat checks and a free pancake breakfast.

      Westport Firefighters Respond to Fatal Accident on I-95

      On December 31st 2016 I-95 northbound between Exits 17 and 18 in Westport was shut down today following a fatal crash between Hales Road and Hillspoint Road. A rear seat passenger in a van not wearing a seat belt was killed when he was ejected from the vehicle after it was rear-ended, went down an embankment, and rolled over, state police said. Three persons in the van were injured.

      A rollover accident on the Merritt Parkway tonight sent a car into the woods just off of Westport’s Twin Oaks Lane, killing a Stamford woman, state police said. Brown, 51, died and a passenger, Donell Alston, 40, suffered non life-threatening injuries, police said.

We responded to over 7300 emergency incidents, spent 1000s of hours training, 3500 volunteer hours in our community and raised over $120,000.00 for various charities including the BCPFFA Burn Fund, Muscular Dystrophy Canada and our own Coquitlam Firefighters Charitable Society.
